Aromatherapy Carrier Massage Oil

This table of aromatherapy carrier massage oil can hopefully simplifiy the minefield of carrier massage oils out there in the market today. Essential oils are very powerful, concentrated substances that should never be applied directly to the skin because an adverse reaction may occur. However, by blending these oils with a carrier massage oil it's diluted to a strength that the skin can benefit from it.

Aromatherapy Carrier Massage Oil

Aroma

Use

Apricot or Peach Because it only has a slight fragrance it does not conflict with blends. This carrier oil can be used on both the face and the body and is particularly suitable for dry or older skin.  Nourishing and soothing for sensitive or inflamed skins.
Avocado Unrefined - a rich pungent aroma which will affect blends.

Refined - a slight odour. Does not conflict with blends.

Unrefined - most suitable for facial skincare.

Refined - may be used by itself for facial skin care or with a blend.

Nourishing, protecting and softening, suitable for dry and dehydrated skins.

Grapeseed Slight "green" fragrance.  Does not conflict with blends This is a good carrier oil for body massage although it can be used for facials but be careful with anyone with sensitive skin or eczema.
Hazelnut This oil has a very pleasant nutty aroma. Good for both face and body.  Particularly good for someone with acne or oily skin.
Jojoba Jojoba has only a very slight oily aroma This is a luxurious oil being a little more expensive than others.  A good oil for all skin types. Anti-inflammatory and nourishing, it is helpful for acne, eczema, psoriasis and allergies.
Olive This oil has a very strong aroma which is hard to disguise. This oil can be used on both face and body and is highly recommended for people with chapped, scaly, dehydrated skins and for soothing sunburn.
Sesame A very light nutty aroma. Suitable for body and facial massage.  Helps to moisturize and protect the skin.
Sunflower A light vegetable aroma This is an inexpensive oil which can be used for bath and body blends. Nourishes the skin.
Sweet Almond A light nutty sweet aroma Suitable for both face and body and great for dry skin as it nourishes and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Wheatgerm A wheaty aroma For use on both face and body, however be careful if your skin is sensitive.  This carrier oil is good to use on mature and dry skin.  Pregnant women and women with stretch marks may find this a useful oil.
