Get Rid of Bumps After Waxing

Get Rid of Bumps After Waxing

Lumps and bumps after waxing are very common. We, in the beauty profession, call it the chicken pluck look. Not very flattering I know, but very descriptive.

bumps after waxing Waxing pulls the hair from the root of the hair shaft very quickly and in doing so there is bound to be just a little inflammation. The stronger your hairs are the more inflammation there is likely to be, as strong hairs are more reluctant to leave the hair shaft.

After waxing, your pores are wide open to the world for a few hours so it’s sensible to use an antiseptic cream or tea tree lotion to prevent infection. After waxing your legs try this wonderful soothing gel - Aloe Vera Cooler on our waxing page. Or perhaps you might like to try making some lavender flower water which will soothe away any redness and irritation.

What can we do before waxing to lessen the bumps after waxing?

Just before waxing your eyebrows. take a cotton wool ball which is soaked in hot water and hold it on the eyebrow area. Not too hot as you don’t want to burn yourself. This will relax the hair shaft making it easier to remove the hair.

Having a nice warm bath or shower will certainly help relax the hair shaft, open the poress and soften the skin and also help with the added bonus of waxing being less painful. However if you are going to a salon to have waxing treatment, it's not always easy to jump out of the bath and into the salon. In this case the only thing you can do is to make sure your skin is not cold by sitting in a warm room just before waxing. If your skin is freezing cold you are not only inviting inflammation into your skin but you are going to feel every single hair come out. Ooooooouch ! If your pain threshold is low don’t go for waxing just before menstruation as it’s far more likely to be twice as painful as at any other time.

After Waxing

After waxing. try applying lavender oil. Lavender is wonderful at both reducing inflammation and reducing redness so it’s a win win situation. Lavender can be used straight from the bottle and applied using cotton wool or you can add a few drops of lavender to your favourite body lotion.

Prevent Bumps after Waxing

  • Don’t make your bumps any worse after waxing by having a hot bath or shower as the hot water will really sting and irritate your skin even more. Wait at least 24 hours before bathing or showering.
  • Don’t go swimming for 24 hours until your pores are closed again as swimming pools are famous for causing all sorts of infections.
  • Try not to wear tight clothing on any waxed areas as this may rub the skin causing even more irritation.
  • Don't apply make-up for at least 24 hours after waxing.
  • Dont' apply a fake tan for at least 48 hours after waxing.
  • Do use an antiseptic cream over the waxed area 2 or 3 times in the 48 hours after waxing.
