Cooling Eye Masks

Cooling eye masks are a great soother to freshen tired eyes.

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest in the whole body, therefore they need special attention. There are fewer oil glands in this area, which adds to the potential dryness. Ordinary face creams are too heavy for this area, the eyes just soak up the moisture making your eyes puffy : not what you want if you are going to work or out on a date!

Apply a tiny amount of eye cream with your ring finger : as this is the weakest finger it causes least pressure. Feel the orbit of the bone underneath your fingers, this is where your eye cream should be applied. Don’t be tempted to go further in as the skin will soak it up and carry it towards your eye : give it a helping hand and you will end up with puffy eyes.

I found a great website for facial masks and loads of other information on eyes that's worth taking a look at.

Gently cleanse and exfoliate your face before relaxing for at least 15 minutes with your choice of cooling eye masks.

  • Cold refrigerated cucumbers are great for tired puffy eyes.
  • Two very thin slices of potatoes are great for brightening and nourishing eyes. Make them thin slices so they make contact, yielding into the contours of the eyes.
  • Two damp tea bags over your eyes are said to help fade under-eye bags because they contain tannin and polyphenols which have an astringent effect.
  • To brighten the whites of your eyes try a simple milk soak. Fill a small bowl with cold milk. Soak two cosmetic pads squeezing out the excess and lie down with the dampened pads over your eyes. Replace the pads as soon as they warm up. Continue treatment for at least 15 minutes.
  • Soak two cosmetic pads with chilled rosewater, squeeze out excess and relax with eye pads over eyes for at least 20 minutes. This is great for tired eyes.
  • For a quick fix, leave a teaspoon overnight in the fridge and before applying your make-up in the morning place the bulb of the teaspoon over your eyes.
