Does Aromatherapy Really Work?

homemade beauty recipes

Does aromatherapy really work? From personal experience, I would say a most definite - yes.

While owning and working in a beauty salon, I could do 5 - 6 massages in one day, one after the other. It wasn't the physical exertion that bothered me; that was easy as I was fairly fit, but it was the essential oils that were used in the massage which I had to watch out for. Two or three hours using lavender oil would make me feel woozy. I would know that I would be unable to offer the next client any massage oils which contained lavender for fear of falling asleep while massaging them!

Oils can be used in a number of different ways. They can be inhaled, they can be applied to the skin, and they can also be taken orally. When applied to the skin you should be aware that aromatherapy oils can be absorbed into the blood stream and lymphatic system. The time the oils take to absorb varies from oil to oil. Some oils only take 1-2 hours to absorb while others can take as long as 24 hours, so this is why you should not shower for some time after a massage.

We can apply to the skin although you must never apply an oil without first diluting it with a carrier oil. Orally means it is taken by mouth, such as in a cup of chamomile tea, but beware, for although a cup of chamomile tea is harmless and very relaxing, unless you know exactly what you are doing with aromatherapy oils then you should never take them them orally - as they can be dangerous. We can also inhale aromatherapy oils with steam or candles.

Does Aromatherapy Really Work - Here's The Evidence

There is plenty of scientic evidence to suggest that tea-tree is a great healer. In fact it was used on wounds with great success during the Second World War. It is also wonderful when added with camomile to soothe insect bites.

Lavender itself is helpful in healing burns including sunburns and has anti-bacterial properties to help heal a wound.

Some people know that eucalyptus if inhaled is great for clearing a stuffy nose and can help if you have a chest infection.

Peppermint is commonly used for indigestion. There is nothing like a cup of peppermint tea to settle your stomach, and talking about tea, a good cup of chamomile just before bedtime can help you sleep better.

Oil of cloves can be a life saver for anyone who has toothache. Who could deny that it dumbs the pain.

Does aromatherapy really work? Yes, without question.
