Homemade Fruit Facial Mask

A homemade fruit facial mask is a great beauty pick me up for skin which is a little dull and could do with a little help.

Perhaps you have been sick or working too hard and your skin needs a treat to bring back its sparkle. A mask made with fruit will naturally exfoliate your skin removing all those dead cells sitting on the top layer preventing healthy skin from shining through. To give your skin an extra zing, try giving yourself a facial massage before you put your mask on to stimulate the circulation, enabling your cells to bathe in fresh oxygen.

Fruit is full of antioxidants which helps slow down the ageing process. They do this by preventing free radicals from attaching themselves to our cells where they cause damage such as wrinkles.

fruit facial mask Don't tell me we don't all need this kind of help with our wrinkles! While you are sitting relaxing with your homemade fruit facial mask, why not eat some fruit to get double the benefit of those antioxidants inside and out.

All fruit contains alphy hyroxy which is a natural exfoliant. This wonderful ingredient can be found in many cosmetics, creams and lotions nowadays. It works by removing the dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin. It really brightens the dullest skin; however, please be careful if using a product which contains alphy hyroxy as by removing surface layers you leave your skin exposed to the harmful rays of the sun.

We have included honey in our fruit masks because of the wonderful healing and moisturising properties that it has. You just can't go wrong by having some runny honey included in all your homemade beauty recipes.

Here are some of my favourite fruit masks

Homemade Banana Fruit Facial Mask

Bananas are a great moisturiser to any skin. In winter the central heating can dry your skin out and in summer it's the sun. Give your skin a hydrating spa with a banana face mask.
  • 1 banana
  • 1tsp of honey
Take a banana and mash it with a fork in a cup. Add one teaspoon of honey and mix it together before applying to your face. Leave the mask on for at least 20-30 minutes before washing off with warm water.

Avocado Fruit Mask

Avocado works magically on mature skin, moisturising and nourishing, helping to prevent wrinkles forming. It also has vitamin A which will help smooth the skin out and vitamin E which gives a little protection from the harmful and (oh so) ageing rays of the sun.
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1tsp of honey
Peel an avocado and then mash the flesh to a pulp with a fork in a small bowl. Add one teaspoon of honey and the egg yolk to the pulp. Apply to your face straight away and leave for 30 minutes before washing off with warm water.

Strawberry Fruit Mask

A strawberry is rich in alpha hyroxy which is a natural exfoliate found in fruit. By exfoliating the skin you are taking away all those dead cells sitting on the surface and unblocking pores which may have caused infection. Alpha Hyroxy is the secret of brighter, healthier looking skin.
  • 5-6 strawberries
  • 2tbls of porridge
  • 1tsp of honey
In a small bowl mash the strawberries to a pulp. Add the porridge and honey to the pulp. Apply to your face and leave for 30 minutes before washing off with warm water.

Orange Homemade Fruit Facial Mask

Oranges are rich in vitamin C, zinc and antioxidants, making this face mask ideal for an acne treatment. Anitoxidants help increase collagen therefore reducing wrinkles especially wrinkles around your eyes. By applying vitamin C regularly to your skin you will notice a much brighter complexion.
  • Juice of one orange
  • 1 egg white
  • 1tsp of honey
Whip the egg white until it's stiff and stands in peaks. Mix the orange juice and honey into the egg white. Apply to your face immediately and leave for at least 30 minutes. The egg white will dry a little : this is normal. Wash off with warm water.
