Healthy Eating Tips

healthy eating tips

Healthy eating tips - Beauty is not just what we put on the outside of our bodies eg make-up, moisturisers, shampoo, waxing, tanning, clothes etc. Beauty has more to do with what’s happening on the inside eg personal happiness, stress and the fuel we feed our bodies with.

A mixed healthy diet is the very best medicine you can offer your body. Healthy doesn’t mean that you can never indulge in chocolates, ice cream and coke, it means everything in moderation. Too much of any food is bad. If you drink alcohol every day then you are probably drinking too much, however there is nothing wrong with the occasional glass of wine or spirit.

Healthy eating tips

  • Avoid saturated fatty foods. Try cutting out butter on your bread or toast.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol on a daily basis.
  • Avoid high cholesterol foods such as pastries.
  • Avoid high salt foods such as crisps and cut back on seasoning your food.
  • Avoid fizzy drinks as they are very bad for your skin and have cancerous agents in them.
  • Do drink at least 8 glasses of water a day as our bodies are made up of 80% water.
  • Do eat at least 5 pieces of fruit every day.
  • Do eat at least 5 servings of vegetables every day.
The old fashioned British way of eating : of elevenses, afternoon tea and supper is an excellent concept to help keep hunger pangs at bay. We can still follow the principles today. Studies which were carried out at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh found that snacks which contained sugar but were low in fat such as toast and honey, can actually be really helpful in losing weight. How? They increase the palatability of our diet, making it easier to cut back on high calorie fatty foods. The ultimate healthy snack is a banana because it is high on energy, low in calories and helps prevent cancer and heart disease.

Suggestion Menu for Healthy eating tips

Wake up - to a glass of warm water or if you would like something with a bit of a zing try adding a slice of lemon. Water will replace the water you lost overnight and hydrate the body quickly.

Breakfast - should never be missed but don’t eat anything heavy, keep it light with some cereal, yoghurt, fruit or toast.

Mid Morning - a piece of fruit or, if you have a particularly physical job, a piece of toast with honey is a treat.

baked pototo

Lunch - a sandwich using wholemeal bread containing salad or cold meat low fat spread. A baked potato is ideal at this time of the day filled with baked beans or tuna fish.

Afternoon tea - a pot of yoghurt or a banana is a great way to see you through to dinner time.

Dinner - grilled chicken with salad and potatoes, or try some pasta with fish.

Supper - there is nothing wrong with a hot milky drink such as hot chocolate to keep night time hunger pangs at bay.

By drinking 8 glasses of water a day you are giving your body a real boast.

Calorie Fact Most women will loose weight if they eat 1500 calories a day. Don’t go on any starvation diets with 1000 or less calories as your body will think there is a famine and will stop loosing weight.
