Homemade Body Scrub

A homemade body scrub is a great way to remove dead skin cells leaving your skin feeling and looking its best.

If you are having other treatments such as a spray tan, a body scrub is advisable so that the tan goes on smoothly. During the summer our skin can become dry and flaky, during the winter our skin can become dull and lifeless, so it makes sense to liven it up with a scrub.

You are best to use the scrub in the shower as it can be a messy business. Indulge yourself with your favourite shower gel and body lotions afterwards.

It's an Indian wedding tradition to prepare the bride's skin daily for 10 days before the wedding. Her body is given a daily homemade body scrub and massaged with oils. By the time her wedding day comes, her skin is soft and glowing. Ground grains, spices and fruit peels will be used. In our body scrub we have tried to make it easy for you by using products which are readily bought.

Eastern Promise Scrub

  • 2tbls ground oatmeal
  • 2tbls ground almonds
  • 1tbls orange peel
  • 6 drops jasmine oil
  • 1tsp of honey
Mix ingredients together using a little water to form a past. Use all over body using circular massage movements. Rinse afterwards by showering using your favourite body lotion to finish.

Orange or lemon peel make a great exfoliation and can easily be added to any homemade body scrub. While drying, keep the peel away from direct sunlight.

    1. Place the peel into a pre-heated oven of 150 degrees to dry for a few hours.

    2. Place the peel in a drying cupboard for a few days to dry.

Buttermilk Scrub

  • 1 cup of oatmeal
  • Half a cup of buttermilk or sour cream
Mix ingredients together and use all over body using circular massage movements. Rinse afterwards by showering using your favourite body lotion to finish.

Brown Sugar Scrub

This sugar scrub is my favourite as it really is easy to make, smells gorgeous, but best of all leaves your skin unbelievably soft.
  • 2 cups of brown sugar
  • Olive oil (enough to make a paste)
  • 2 drops of your choice of aromatherapy oil
Mix ingredients together and use all over body using circular massage movements. Shower afterwards to rinse using your favourite body lotion to finish.
