Homemade dishwasher soap and laundry soap recipes
Have you ever wondered how you could make your own homemade dishwasher soap and own homemade laundry soap recipe?
It sounds complicated to make your own soap - but it's very easy and something we could
all do if we wanted to. We tend to think when we are using electrical equipment that it's out
of our control. We imagine that the only ingredients to clean our dishes in the dishwasher
come in tiny tablet form bought from the grocery store which we lock into a little drawer in
the machine. But here we are going to enlighten you, whilst saving you money on the way.
In our recipes we are going to make use of bicarbonate of soda. This little abrasive powder is
so versatile in the kitchen that it can be used for all sorts including tenderising meat, making bread,
treating burns, cleaning the micro and, by no means last, for our homemade dishwasher soap and
laundry soap recipe.
We are also going to use borax, a great little cleaner. Borax comes in little crystals form and can be
used in conjunction with lemon juice, white vinegar or of course bicarbonate of soda.

Homemade Dishwasher Soap
- 1 cup of bicarbonate of soda
- 1 cup of borax
Place borax into a coffee grinder and grind until mixture is a fine powder
Combine both the borax powder and the bicarbonate of soda powder together and store
in an airtight container
Use 2 teaspoons of the mixture in the dishwasher
As a rinse aid, use white vinegar
Homemade Laundry Soap Recipe
In our laundry recipe it's optional to add bicarbonate of soda. It will bring your whites back
to white and make your colours brighter.
- 1 cup grated soap
- 1/2 cup washing soda
- 1/2 cup borax
50grms of bicarbonate of soda (optional)
Mix the ingredients together and pour mixture on top of clothes before starting the
washing machine.
