Manuka Honey for Skincare

Honey has always been one of the greatest gifts that nature has gifted man. There are various health benefits of honey that none other product can provide. Though there are different forms of honey, the one that is highly beneficial is the Manuka honey. This kind of honey is the one that is a form of monofloral honey which the bees produce by feeding on the Manuka plant, otherwise called as the tea tree. This honey is said to have anti bacterial and anti fungal properties and is widely known for its wound and injury healing properties too. This is largely obtained from New Zealand. The anti bacterial properties of this kind of honey are useful for the health of the skin as well as the health of the whole system.

Once the bees gather the nectar from the tea tree or the Manuka plant, they add an enzyme to the nectar called glucose oxidase for the preservation of the honey. When this comes into contact with the body fluids, the hydrogen peroxide with antibacterial properties is released. This is the property that is largely used in the cure of various skin troubles that humans are prone to and can be used as an ingredient in facial masks and in a homemade facial exfoliator. Here are a few benefits that Manuka honey provides for skin care.

1. The first and most important benefit of the Manuka honey is that it has the properties of curing eczema. Since it is known for treating damaged skin and regenerate new skin cells it is largely used in almost all the products that are manufactured to cure eczema and other forms of dermatitis.

2. It also has the ability to moisturize and soothe the cracked skin. Application of this kind of honey on the affected areas can easily heal such problems and prevent them from further damage too.

3. The rejuvenation and soothing property of Manuka honey also helps in curing psoriasis and problems associated with dry skin.

4. Manuka honey is also known for the treatment of acne as it kills the bacteria that cause the acne and pimples on the skin. Most of the acne treatment products have Manuka honey as a major ingredient.

5. It also helps in curing the infected wounds and the anti bacterial and anti microbial property plays its part in dealing with the infections and further preventing them from further harm. This is because the bacteria cannot survive in conditions of high sugar levels. This also acts a natural antiseptic.

6. You can also apply this for cuts and burns too. Applying this honey not only cures the condition but also keeps the skin away from damage. The scars inflicted due to the burns and wounds are also cured.

7. Being one of the greatest boons for the skin care, they can be used in the homemade exfoliator for the prevention of wrinkles. The presence of vitamins and antioxidants in the honey is responsible for the fighting of wrinkles and keeping the skin hydrated. This also helps in keeping the skin young and fresh.

8. Another common skin infection is the ringworm and this can also be treated using the Manuka honey. It is the anti fungal property of the Manuka honey that handles the ringworm. Other fungal infections like the athlete's foot and jock itch can also be healed by applying the honey.
