Natural skin care oils

This page is here to help you through the maze of natural skin care oils. Some of the following you will be able to buy in your local supermarket others you might have to go to a health store to buy. Don’t be frightened to experiment with different oils which will have different properties. A little experience and before you know it, you will have mastered the art of making your own creams and lotions.

Beeswax - melting an oil into beeswax makes an easy to use cream. Beeswax has been used for centuries to make cosmetics, taken from the walls of the bee cells it’s suitable for all skin types.

Borax - is used to add texture to creams and lotions. A natural preservative which can be used on any skin type but especially useful on sensitive skin.

Cocoa Butter - A great addition to any moisturiser as it locks in the moisture and skin just adores it. Easy to use as it melts at body temperature.

Fuller’s Earth - Fine grey clay powder which is excellent for an oily facial mask.

Glycerine - is a natural “humectants” meaning it attracts moisture to the skin therefore making lotions and creams nice and slippy.

Honey - has so many healing benefits it can be used on all skin types. A great addition to natural skin care oils, lotions and creams.

Kaolin - Fine white clay powder which draws toxins from the skin.

Lemon Juice - is bleaching making it a natural remedy for skin marks and nails with nicotine stains.

Oatmeal - makes for a great exfoliater and a great base for a facial mask for any skin type.

Rosewater - is a skin-smoother which makes a lovely skin toner or can be added to moisten facial masks.

Shea Butter - makes a great base for any cosmetic cream or lotion but can equally be as good used on it’s own.

Witch Hazel - makes a great toner for oil, problem skin or adding to moisten a facial mask.

Olive Oil This wonderful oil moisturises without leaving an oily feel to the skin, and there have been many reports that acne actually improves dramatically when olive oil is used regularly.

Vinegar An apple cider vinegar bath is a wonderful way of restoring the skins ph balance quickly.
