Olive oil for skin has many uses
Relaxing Bath
Treat yourself to a relaxing bath by pouring two or three dessert spoonfuls of olive oil and a few drops of your favourite essential oil into the water. If you want to relax, lavender is great; if you have a spotty back, try adding
tea tree oil. Always be careful with any allergies to products and oils that you may have when taking a bath. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Your skin will feel wonderfully soft after this treatment.
Luxury Shower
If you don't have time to take a bath then a hot shower to open the pores is the answer, and immediately after drying yourself with soft towel cosy off the radiator, apply olive oil all over your body. It will simply melt into your skin with the heat of the shower. Luxury for the working girl!
Hair Conditioner
Massage olive oil into dry hair, then comb it through making sure every hair strand is covered. Take a damp towel and heat it in the microwave so that it's warm. Take care not to burn yourself. Wrap your hair in the towel. Repeat two or three times before shampooing the olive oil out.
Make-up and Moisturiser
At night time use it as a make-up remover. Put a little olive oil on cotton wool and gently remove your make-up finish by using a
toner to remove any residue. A little olive oil can then be applied to your face as a moisturiser. You will notice the difference in the morning. Try this method even if you have oily skin. There have been many reports of acne clearing up when using olive oil. It moisturises without leaving your skin oily.
Rough Skin
If your elbows and knees have dry, rough skin or are cracked, try rubbing a little oil into them morning and night.
Sugar Scrub
Mix three or four dessert spoonfuls of oil with sugar and you have a wonderful
sugar scrub
which can be used all over your body leaving your skin as soft as a baby's
Olive Oil and the Sun
There is some research to say that olive oil for skin and especially virgin olive oil can prevent cancer or at least reduce/delay skin cancer if used after sunbathing. Never underestimate the dangerous rays of the sun. Prevention by keeping away from strong sunshine is always better that cure.
