Tea Tree Oil Use

tea tree

Tea Tree oil use - is one of the favourite oils that I use as a Beauty Therapist. I use it before and after waxing. It has some amazing healing properties such as antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal. It also has countless uses such as healing a baby's nappy rash, helping cracked heels, soothing sunburn, calming skin after shaving, helping clear acne / athletes foot / ringworm / wounds, helping respiratory problems when used as an inhalation : the list could go on and on.

Like many medical discoveries, tea tree oil use was only looked at with interest during World War 2 when it was issued in first-aid kits to the military units in tropical regions, however it wasn’t long before demand outstripped supply and synthetic antiseptics were substituted. After the war antibiotics were popular especially with the introduction of the NHS in Britain : this is the reason that tee tree was once again put to the side until about 1970 when scientific researched discovered how effective a treatment it was for fungal infections such as athletes foot.

Tea tree comes from the M. alternifolia which lives in Australia and is a small shrubby tree with narrow leaves and has a cream flower in the spring. The aboriginal people used the trunk to make small canoes and knives and Captain Cook's crew from The Endeavour used the leaves as a substitute for a refreshing, spicy tea.

Warning - don’t use this mask if you have sensitive skin.

Mix all the ingredients together before applying to your face and leaving for at least 15 minutes. This mask may leave your skin looking a little blotchy, however this will only last for about 30 minutes, the longer lasting effects are worth it. Your skin will appear smoother, tighter, and fresher. To freshen eyes place two slices of cucumber on each eye while you are relaxing with your mask.

    Tea Tree Gel

This is great for a before-waxing treatment to ensure that the skin is oil free.

Mix both ingredients together before applying to the skin with a cosmetic wipe or cotton wool.

Mixing 2 drops of essential tea tree oil to a basic lotion makes a great after-wax lotion : it also makes for a great body lotion and foot lotion.

    After Sun Cooling Bath

Mix all ingredients together before pouring into a running bath. Soak for 15-20 minutes.

A few drops of tea tree added to a carrier oil make for a great massage.
