Waxing Your Legs

waxing your legs

Waxing your legs - If you woke up this morning and decided to wear a skirt , you may have got a fright! What were these hairy looking things at the end of your body?

Waxing can be uncomfortable, but well worth enduring for a smooth, hair-free few weeks.

Let your hairs grow as long as possible (at least 1/4 of an inch) before considering waxing (Yeuk !) If you let your hairs grow, you ensure that they are all on the same growth rate which ensures that waxing removes them all and doesn’t leave some hairs which are just about to pop to the surface of the skin. The longer the hair the more time you will have being hair-free which has to be a bonus.

It’s vital to remember that by pulling hairs out of their roots what you have done is left a pore wide open to the world and bacteria! To prevent infection you should smooth Tea Tree or some anti bacterial cream onto the waxing area immediately afterwards. It’s a good idea within the first 24 hours to apply some more anti bacterial cream. Most people have something in their bathroom cabinets to apply to cuts, so this is ideal after waxing.

Just before and during menstruation waxing may be more painful.

Waxing your legs yourself you will need:

  • Hot wax - please read the instructions
  • Wax strips
  • Anti Bacterial Before Wax Cleanser
  • Anti Bacterial After Wax Soother
Make sure surrounding wax area is protected from flying wax!

1. Cleanse the area with an anti bacterial cleanser such as Tea Tree.

2. Look at the direction the hairs are growing.

3. Smooth the the wax over the area in the direction of hair growth. Only a very thin layer of wax is required. This may take practise.

4. Place wax strip over the waxed skin and firmly smooth over with your hand so that the wax sticks to the wax strip.

5. Very quickly pull the wax strip off the skin in the opposite direction to the hair growth making sure you pull across rather than upwards which could cause bruising and inefficient hair removal.

6. When you are finished waxing, smooth anti bacterial After Wax Soother onto the skin.

After Waxing Your Legs Care

After waxing it's normal for your skin to look red and angry : it can resemble a plucked chicken! This should only last for 24 hours.

Having a bath or shower before waxing is fine and may open the pores encouraging the hairs to be easily removed. However after waxing it's a no, no, for 24 hours as the heat may open your pores further, inviting bacteria into the skin. Hot water will feel very uncomfortable after waxing almost like a burn.

Avoid sun beds or sunbathing for 24 hours as this can cause burning.
