What Causes Wrinkles
And Why Are antioxidants For Skincare Important

What causes wrinkles and why are antioxidants for skincare important? Wrinkles are one of the first visible signs that we are aging.

We would all love to stay young forever and throughout the centuries people have endeavoured to find ways, but it's just as much a mystery why we age today as it was in Roman times.

However today we do know what happens as our bodies get older as scientists have even discovered ways to tell how long we shall live.

Genetically speaking as soon as we have reproduced we are no longer of any use. A cheerful thought to keep in mind as you look at your first born! Our genes are responsible for some of the wrinkles we get while others are determined by outside factors such as whether we eat well, sit in the sun a lot, smoke etc.

So what causes wrinkles and why do we need antioxidants for skincare?
Antioxidants help prevent damage done to your body (inside and out) by free radicals. Free radicals are electrons which as the name says are free to travel and attach themselves to cells where they cause damage such as premature ageing. Antioxidants reduce this from happening. Anything which generates free radicals encourages premature ageing and wrinkles, things such as pollution, smoking, the suns rays, chemicals which are used in our food and in our water amongst many more.

Just take a look at your stomach or another area of your body that's not over exposed to the sun then take another look at the skin on your hands and face for proof of what pollution and the suns rays do to us.

Mind blowing!
Did you know that smoking can make you look 10 years older?

So now we know what causes wrinkles but what can we do about it? - First we need to combat these free radicals and to do that we must drink and eat foods and juices which are full of antioxidants for skincare. This is where antioxidants for skincare come into their own.

  • Eat loads of fresh fruit and vegetables as they are full of antioxidants.
  • Avoid fried or burnt foods as burning generates free radicals.
  • Drink plenty of water for healthy cell generation.
  • Green tea, pink grapefruit and pomegranate fruit are particularly full of antioxidants.

We also need to remember to protect our skin on the outside especially in the sun where it's wise to use a sun block. Some people swear by vitamin C serum which will really bring your skin alive.

How does our lifestyle have anything to do with what causes wrinkles?

If we lead a stressful lifestyle then you are likely to be eating the wrong foods, frowning a lot, and sending signals to your pituitary gland to produce the wrong hormones for your body's needs. All of which will accelerate ageing and wrinkles.

Studies have shown people who live longest are likely to be happy and relaxed people who can empathise with others with through communication.

One way we can all relax is to take 15 minutes each day is to do some facial exercises. Go to our facial exercise page for instructions.

Massage your skin to encourage healthy blood circulation and tone muscles.

Use this recipe for a daily facial massage, as it's also a great hydrator with which mature skin needs a helping hand.
  • 10ml avocado oil
  • 2 drops rose essential oil
  • 2 drops sandalwood essential oil
  • 2 drops frankincense essential oil
